In my last post, I talked through my autumnal outfit staples. Now for another favourite topic of mine… Home decor inspo!
Autumnal Home Decor Inspo
I’m not overly keen on the garish halloween-type decorations, but I do love a few simple touches to make the house feel more cosy. Especially as we don’t have a fireplace, which I think make all the difference to a cosy living room!
Candles & Fairy lights – Absolute essentials in my house. I have too many tea lights to admit and I hang fairy lights wherever I can (including off dressers and around picture frames…). But the living room feels instantly more cosy when everything is on, and I L-O-V-E it. Nothing like coming home from a long day, lighting some candles, putting pjs on, and eating ice-cream for dinner (yes, I know that’s not a terribly ‘adult’ thing to have for dinner…).
Pumpkins & mini squash – I am obsessed, especially with mini squash. You can use them to decorate your home without it being OTT. And if you love the OTT autumn home decor inspo then they just enhance the overall look! You can pick them up in most supermarkets or greengrocers – I can’t get enough of them!
That’s it for my getting cosy for autumn & home decor inspo. But my next post is going to be all about some autumn faves, so keep your eyes peeled for that!
Keep up-to-date with all things Lila Bailey over on my Instagram account!
If you keep up with my Instagram page, then you’ll have seen that our spare room renovation finally came together at the beginning of this week. It has been a looonnnggg time coming, and I’m just so pleased it’s done now!
When it comes to spending money, you’ll find no-one more against the idea than me. I love to save save save and never (ever) spend spend spend. So doing up a whole room seemed like a daunting task. But, one morning on my way to work (after a terrible night’s sleep) I was slightly grumpy and asked myself what is the point in driving all this way and earning money, if I can’t spend a bit of it every once in a while? Walking to work I rang Euan and told him I’d decided it was time to do the spare room up.
The next thing he knew, we were in Ikea (I’m talking a matter of days later) picking bed frames and mirrors…
The Spare Room – Before & After
In September 2016 we moved from our parents’ houses into our first home, both together and as individuals. Being perhaps slightly naive, or maybe our circumstances have just changed, we didn’t like the idea of a spare room. Thinking we’d get full use out of 3 functioning living spaces (lol) we set-up our second bedroom as an office, and our third bedroom as a second living room (with a sofa bed just in case people happened to stay over). It soon dawned on us that perhaps a guest bedroom would be more appealing after all…
So here is a ‘before & after’ of our guest bedroom…!
Below is a link to all the items we purchased for our new & improved room! All completely affordable (and mostly from Ikea).
Bed Frame (don’t forget to order bed slats – ha!).
All-in-all, the renovation cost us around £300 and I couldn’t be happier!
*We paid for all items listed (apart from the boxes which I had already) and this post is not sponsored in any way. Just sharing the love* I haven’t listed the decor bits & pictures because they were all in the house already and I don’t know where most of them are from!
I hope you enjoyed this home interiors post. Whilst you’re here, why not take a look at our engagement shoot pics!
Okay so if you read my ‘what I’m up to‘ blog series earlier in the year, you’ll know all about The Empty Box Company. (If not, give it a read. This post will make more sense). I did some marketing work on interior design a couple of months ago, and this was the initial blog post I wrote. I ended up re-writing it, but kept the original text (I always do – habit!). And instead of letting it sit on my computer totally unloved and forgotten (small violins, please), I thought I’d share it on here instead! Enjoy…
Blog Post for The Empty Box Company – Interior Design
It’s not just all ‘weddings’ here at The Empty Box Company. We also love interior design. So much so that all our product papers are in actual fact interior design papers from British interior design companies. Yes, really!
A beautiful box (or two) really can transform a room, and finish off an interior design project to perfection. Don’t believe me? Keep reading, you’ll be sure to change your mind…
Interior Design – What actually is it?
According to Wikipedia, interior design is the art and science of enhancing the interior of a building to achieve a healthier and more aesthetically pleasing environment for the people using the space.
In other words, it’s making a room look it’s best and therefore sparking joy (Marie Kondo reference there – if you know, you know). Decorating your home can have an enormous impact on your mood, happiness, and love for the space you live in. And the most annoying part is often you don’t realise how much happier a space can be until you decorate it! Our advice? Just.Do.It. There’s always a reason (or 45) to prioritise other things over decorating your home, but sometimes you’ve just got to take the plunge!
Top Tips to Easily Transform Your Home
Having a bit of an interior re-vamp doesn’t always need to be an enormous undertaking. Here are some top tips to easily transform your home…
A lick of paint is sometimes all you need. Are you guilty of considering buying an entire room’s worth of new furniture purely because your current furniture doesn’t match your interior vision? Why not consider matching your interior vision to the furniture you already have? Natural coloured wooden furniture goes amazingly with shades of green or burgundy, black furniture works wonderfully with pinks & greys, and white furniture looks visionary with blues & purples.
2. House plants & free-standing lamps are your best friends. Areas that are too small for furniture but look empty without something filling the space can be resolved by a house plant (real or fake!) or a free-standing lamp.
3. Empty Box Company boxes are beautiful and practical. Our huge range of boxes work wonderfully as home decor accessories, and being empty they double up as handy storage too. From adding an extra dimension to your display shelf, to a stack of hat boxes sat perfectly in your living room, we’ve got a box for all interior eventualities. Want to know the best part? You can even have bespoke boxes made in your very own wallpaper so your room & decor match perfectly. Read more about our bespoke service here.
Interior Design on Youtube
Because we just love interior design so much, we’ve created a little Youtube video to help visualise what you could do with your home using The Empty Box Company. Here it is!
I technically got paid to write this post, because I wrote it during my working day (which I got paid for…). However I was not paid or obligated in any way to share it on here. Simply sharing because I wrote it and didn’t want it to go to waste 🙂
