Okay, so who doesn’t love a Christmas film? I am alllll about snuggling up with a feel good film, especially at this time of year. Everyone’s festive film favourites will be different, but I thought I’d run through mine. You never know, there may be one or two you forgot even existed!
Not sure if this is slightly unconventional or not, but I absolutely adore this film. The cast is amazing to start with (yes – Eva Longoria is in this, thank you very much). But I genuinely love the take on the whole ‘Father Christmas’ story; they make it so legit, to the point where I genuinely could believe such an operation exists…! And who doesn’t love a cheeky cartoon at Christmas?
Home Alone #2
I also love #1, but I have to say Home Alone #2 is one of my festive film favourites. Not sure why, but it’s an absolute must-watch of mine at Christmas! I haven’t actually watched 3 or 4, and I think there might even be a fifth one?! Anyway, love this one. And every time I watch it, it makes me sooo desperate to visit New York!
The Snowman & Father Christmas
Another animation (I think I’m secretly still 6 years old) but I think this film is soooo cute. And I feel like it’s also seriously underrated?! It’s an easy watch, and the music is just gorgeous. I happen to have the double DVD which includes Father Christmas – not complaining! Another super cute silent film. Gosh, all this film talk is making me want to grab a hot chocolate and snuggle in!
So, maybe I’m just a sucker for a big cast… But I can’t get through the festive season without watching The Holiday. Fun fact! They filmed it in a village near where I grew up, and one day we actually went to the set & watched them filming. My mum loves Jude Law, and we stood at the front of a crowd of people and watched them film him crossing a road about 145 times. In the end they actually cut that scene from the film – gutting! They also covered the church in fake snow but it looked so magical. And, Kate Winslet’s house was actually only ‘built’ for the show (obviously not properly) so isn’t a real house at all. Sorry for the spoilers….!
Saving the best until last… This is my all time favourite Christmas film, and I’d almost go as far as saying it’s my favourite film full stop (it’s definitely in my top 5 anyway!). The cast is obvs second-to-none and I love the way they make the storylines in this film. The music is sensational throughout and the opening scene honestly makes me cry (let alone the rest of it). If someone said I had to choose between never being able to watch Love Actually again, or it being the only film I’m ever allowed to watch for the rest of my life… You bet yo’ bottom dollar that I’d drop all other films in a heartbeat!
To Conclude Festive Film Favourites
What are your film favourites at Christmas? Do you love an all-star cast like me, or prefer the more traditional films? Let me know – I’m always up for discovering new Christmas films!
Okay, enough of autumn (for now). Let’s get back to some wedding stuff! Corks & candles – what on earth do I mean? Basically, Euan, my dad, and I have all been saving wine & champagne corks for literally years. We have so many now, it’s beyond a joke… And naturally we’ve just got to incorporate them into our wedding, right?! I have many fabulous ideas of how we’re going to use them (and I’m sure I will not get around to doing them all…) but here is quite a simple corks & candles idea I came up with and thought I’d share…
Corks & Candles – The How To
You may have watched my insta stories from earlier on today (if you didn’t have a watch now. I’ve also saved them to my highlights if you’re reading this after the 24hrs is up!). That’ll show you a little video clip of me putting them together, but here is the written version…
A loooaaaddd of corks (I used red wine corks for the smaller vase and champagne/prosecco corks for the larger vase)
Cylinder shaped vases (I got mine from Ikea – links below)
Pillar candles (again, mine are from Ikea but you can get them from lots of different places)
Something for the candles to sit on (this isn’t necessary, but I think it’s a good idea)
The How To:
Place your candle into the middle of the cylinder
Strategically place the corks around the candle so they are unmovable, but still look nice (much easier with red wine corks than champagne corks!)
Take a pic, and tag me in it!
Haha – it really is suuuuper simple. And I think they look great! Especially if you’re into wine. We’re using ours for general decor around the barn, but if you’re having round tables they would make a fantastic centrepiece. And why not add a bit of foliage around the outside to bring it even more to life?
*Disclaimer* I am slightly worried about them catching on fire, but Euan assures me they won’t… Anyway, I think I’ll soak them all in water beforehand just to be sure. And if they do catch light, hopefully it’ll be contained in the vase…….!!
If you fancy creating these corks & candles decor pieces, here are the links to items I bought. But, we saved the corks ourselves so you’d better get drinking!!
Well we couldn’t start October off without some autumn faves now could we?! Today I thought I’d write about a few items I’ve been using a lot over the past couple of weeks. Not necessarily ‘autumnal’ items, but we’ll go with it…
Autumn Faves – Beauty/Bath
First off, the shampoo that dreams are made of…! I change up my shampoo & conditioner quite frequently, and always have a couple on the go. But when the weather starts to get a bit colder I find my hair needs something to give it a bit more moisture. Enter… Coconut milk!
And in autumn, who doesn’t love a bath? (I bloody love a bath). These bath tea bags are from a gift shop in my town, but I think you can find them (or certainly ones similar) pretty much anywhere. I love a bath bomb too, but find these are more subtle but really leave your skin smelling glorious afterwards.
And, something I haven’t actually used yet because it’s too darn pretty… This amazing soap cupcake that I bought at the Yorkshire Soap Company in Harrogate (check out my Harrogate recap post to learn more). Surely I’m not the only one who thinks it looks too good to use?!
Home & Office
Also from the Yorkshire Soap Co is this amazing candle that I genuinely can’t get enough of. I wanted an autumnal smell and the lady in the shop suggested this one. What a dream it is! Can’t have autumn without a few new candles now, can you?
Finally, the thing that I don’t think I could live without… My giant planner! I bought this at the end of August so I could get a bit more organised with my blog posts & content. It has been a miracle, and keeps me totally on track. Plus, I am an actual stationery geek so any excuse to buy something new!
So there you have a few of my autumn faves. And for more autumnal vibes, check out my last twoposts! Next up on the blog, it’s back to weddings with some wedding decor inspiration that I’m having at my own wedding.
I’m soooooooo excited to share a few of our engagement shoot pics, taken by the amazing Emma (Freckle Photography). We had 12 preview images only a couple of days after the shoot itself (because Emma is amazing), and we’ll get the rest of them around the beginning of June – cannot wait!
Head over to my last post to learn more about engagement shoots… And enjoy the photos below!
All images are by Freckle Photography, and this shoot was part of our wedding photography package which we have paid for.
On Easter Sunday (end of April) Euan & I were lucky enough to have the most amazing engagement shoot with our photographer, Emma (Freckle Photography). We lucked out with the weather (heatwave weekend!) and had soo much fun laughing, smiling, and chatting.
I’m going to share a few of our preview images soon, but I wanted to first talk a bit about engagement shoots and why they are important.
Also know as pre-wedding shoots, depending on how close to your wedding you have it! Firstly, what are engagement shoots? Well, they’re basically a photoshoot with your wedding photographer which takes place during your engagement period. Not much to it really!
Some photographers will offer engagement/pre-wedding shoots as part of their photography package, and others will offer them for an additional price. Either way, I highly recommend.
Why are they important?
I’ve always thought engagement shoots were incredibly important. Seeing the difference between couples on their wedding day who have previously had a photoshoot with their photographer and those who haven’t solidified it in my mind a long time ago. But, having never had one myself I didn’t want to be too vocal about how important they are until I had experienced it for myself.
But, now I have! So why are they important? Time for some bullet points I think…
You get to meet your photographer properly. You’re going to be getting quite up close and personal in front of your photographer, so you want to feel comfortable around them. And the best way for you all to get to know each other is to go out and have some pics taken!
It’s good practice. When do you ever stand in front of a camera for 30 minutes solidly, kissing & cuddling your other half? It’s an alien concept, and is surprisingly difficult. Even the most confident of people will feel a tad shy when there’s someone telling them to have a smooch with a camera pointed in their face.
Your photographer gets a chance to photograph you. Obvious, right? What I mean is during engagement shoots, photographers can figure out your most flattering sides & angles, work out where best to stand you both in relation to each other, and all the other clever photography tricks. I have zero photography experience (can you tell?) but in any walk of life, things are almost always easier second time around. And if you have an engagement shoot, your wedding day won’t be the first time your photographer has photographed you.
Photos will probably take up less time on your wedding day. This is tied pretty closely to you both being more comfortable in front of a camera paired with your photographer knowing you through their lens. Since you’ve ‘been there done that’ you won’t need to spend quite as long faffing around trying to get the perfect pic.
There are many other benefits to having engagement shoots, the photos for example! Your engagement period is one of the most special times in your life, so why not have some killer pics to remember it by? And also, why not?! Go for it! We had the most amazing evening having our engagement shoot, and that in itself was pretty special. Let alone the amazing pics Emma took!
Keep your eyes peeled for some preview images on the blog over the next few days… And in the meantime, why don’t you catch up with my planning update blog post series?
